Getting to North Vancouver for Sports
North Vancouver sits across Burrard Inlet from downtown, connected by the SeaBus (12-minute crossing from Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay) and the Lions Gate Bridge. If you are coming from downtown without a car, the SeaBus is the best option — it runs every 10-15 minutes and drops you at Lonsdale Quay, where buses connect to every major recreation centre. Driving takes 15-25 minutes depending on Lions Gate Bridge traffic, which is heaviest during weekday rush hours.
The North Shore has a distinct sports culture shaped by its mountain-adjacent geography. Trail running, mountain biking, and skiing dominate the outdoor scene, but indoor court sports thrive year-round. TOCA Football in particular draws players from across Metro Vancouver for its premium indoor soccer fields. Delbrook Recreation Centre is the main NVRC hub for badminton and pickleball, with 6 courts and regular drop-in schedules.
Weekend mornings are the best time to cross over for sports — bridge traffic is light, SeaBus runs frequently, and most facilities have good availability before noon. Weekday evenings are popular with local residents, so book ahead if you are coming from Vancouver proper. Parking is free at most North Van recreation centres, which is a significant advantage over Vancouver facilities.
The Lonsdale area near the Quay is walkable and has good food options before or after playing. Lower Lonsdale Recreation Centre is a 5-minute walk from the SeaBus terminal. For TOCA Football further up the shore, you will need a bus or car — it is about 20 minutes from the Quay.
