Vancouver Sports Guides

Local knowledge for Vancouver's sports community. Where to play, how to find games, and what to know.

Vancouver has one of the most active recreational sports communities in Canada. With over 166 rainy days a year, the city has built an extraordinary network of indoor courts, community centres, and multi-sport facilities to keep players moving year-round. Whether you play badminton in Richmond, pickup basketball at Trout Lake, or weekend volleyball at Kits Beach, there is a game happening near you almost every day of the week.

This blog exists to make Vancouver’s sports scene easier to navigate. Booking a court through municipal websites is painful. Finding people to play with means joining three different WhatsApp groups and hoping someone shows up. Knowing which indoor facilities are worth the drive — versus which ones are booked solid six weeks out — takes experience that newcomers simply do not have yet. These guides exist to fix all of that.

The topics here cover everything a Vancouver player actually needs: how to book courts at community centres versus private facilities and what the price difference looks like in practice. How to find pickup games in basketball, soccer, pickleball, and volleyball without knowing anyone. Which neighbourhoods have the best infrastructure for your sport — East Van for basketball, Richmond for badminton, North Van for indoor soccer, Kitsilano for tennis and beach volleyball. What to do on a Tuesday evening in November when it is raining and your usual outdoor court is soaked.

The blog is written for three groups. New residents who moved here from another city and are trying to rebuild their sports routine from scratch. Casual players who want to play more often but do not have a regular crew or do not know what is available. And sports enthusiasts who already play regularly and want to discover new facilities, new formats, or new communities to play with.

The most-read topics are the rainy day indoor guide, the pickup sports overview, and the neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood breakdowns. Start there if you are new. If you already know what sport you play and just need to find courts and games, use the sport-specific guides below.
